EQ

1. I reviewed the rule of three for writing an EQ.
2. a. What is the most important factor in healthy weight loss?
It follows the rule of three criteria because:

-There are studies that show how different types of exercises target different parts of the body and how eating different foods in certain amounts affect your body

-People will debate on different exercises or eating habits to defend on why they think that's the right method
-The EQ is specific and concentrates on one specific problem for different solutions to answer.

   b. What is most important to securing a conviction in a criminal investigation?

It doesn't follow the rule of three criteria because:

-Although there are studies that show how to approach a criminal investigation, it doesn't really explain what type of crime scene took place.

-Since there is no specific crime to evaluate, people can't debate on how to even start securing a conviction for certain crimes.
-The EQ itself is not quite clear on figuring what the topic is.

   c. What is most important in creating a hairstyle that best satisfies a customer?
It follows the rule of three criteria because:

-There are articles on the latest popular trend for hair designs and how different types of hairstyles look good on certain people.

-A lot of hair stylists will argue which hair style is the best, which hair color is the best, or how long the ideal hair length should be.
-It is specific, clearly explains the topic of their project, and focuses itself on customer satisfaction.

  d. How can an Anesthesiologist best treat chronic pain?

It follows the rule of three criteria because:

-There are research on how chemicals are used to make certain products, efficiency of some anesthetics, and how some anesthetics are upgrading.

-Anesthesiologists will debate on how to improve our anesthetics and which anesthetics will work best for certain patients.
-It is specific, clearly identifies the topic, and focuses on treating chronic pain.

3. Possible draft EQs for future use:
-What is the best factor to get a standing ovation for a hip hop performance?
-What is the most important thing a hip hop dance choreographer should consider when creating a stunning dance routine?

The Hangout

So this is where I do my mentorship. I'm sorry if it's too dark to read the sign on top. If you can't read it, it says "The Lab 24/7: Creative Arts Studio".

The Gist of It

Blog 8: Research and Working EQ

1. My EQ is "What is the best way to keep the audience of all ages viewing your dance routine as a standing ovation?"

2. "What is the best way to keep the audience of all ages viewing your dance routine as a standing ovation?"

-Make your moves and your whole routine really complex. People will be amazed at the dancers and how they can memorize such difficult and spontaneous dance sequences. Your dance routine will be remembered definitely for its difficulty.

-Format your transitions so they correspond to certain parts of the song. For example, if there is an "explosion" sound in the song, have the crew do something that represents an explosion. If there is a rising sound before the song "drops the bass" have one dancer, or a few, move their arms in a rising wave motions to represent the rising sound. Songs with lyrics help a lot in formatting your dance routine.

3. The most important source(s) that helped me come up with answers to my EQ are my interviews and research checks.

4. My main mentor is Heather Gonzalez and I shadow at The Lab Creative Arts Studio. Shadowing other hip hop dance teachers contribute to my ideas for different dance moves and teaching methods for choreography.

Blog 7: Independent Component 1 Approval

1. For my independent component, I will be creating a dance routine or more with a few friends. As I create the routine(s), I will analyze what makes the dance routine unique, what needs improvement, and certain feedback from other people I need to consider. If that fails, I will continue with regular mentorship hours

2.To show that I've done my 30 hours, I will take many pictures of me teaching a dance routine, possibly record on video some of the routine(s) I did, and maybe keep a summarized log of what I did for every time I work on my component.

3. What I'm doing will help me explore my topic more in depth because I'm actually the one who's teaching the routine(s) which gives me a heads-up experience for choreographing, I'm actually analyzing every factor of a song that can contribute to the uniqueness of the dance routine(s) for the specified song(s), and getting feedback from other people is already a way to explore this certain topic more in depth.

Blog 6: Second Interview

1. My mentor is Heather Gonzalez and she works in a dance studio called "In the Lab 24/7".

2.-When and how did you start working in "The Lab 24/7"?
-How and where did you learn your skills for hip hop?
-Did you attend a dance school/program for hip hop? If so, can you please describe your experience in the school?
-How did you get into dance crews outside of "The Lab 24/7"?
-Were you recommended for a very special event? If so, what was the reason for it?

Want More?

A sample of lyrical hip hop

Blog 5 Project Reflection and Working EQ

The Pentagon:

1. The positive thing that has happened over what I have completed so far is that I got a mentor to teach me more of hip hop since I love it a lot. I'm also becoming more involved with the dance studio I'm attending. I also have the ok to practice my own choreography with one of the instructors.

2. All my sources from Hip Hop Moves really taught me a lot about dance crews, choreography, and two types of hip hop that I usually do--lyrical and freestyle hip hop. While the other sources talk about the history and the affects of hip hop on the public, these sources go more in depth on choreography, styles, and crews in general.

3. What has worked out is that I was able to find a mentor, to be able to go to the dance studio since I enjoy it there, and actually getting progress done with this topic.

4. What hasn't worked out so far is that my second mentor who works at the same studio hasn't responded yet, so I'm still waiting for his reply and that my dad thinks I'm fooling around when I go to the dance studio.

5.
-My potential EQ is "What is the best way to keep the audience, of all ages, viewing your choreography as a standing ovation?"
-I plan to shadow an instructor teaching a dance routine to students, at times, attend a dance routine session, and to plan a dance routine of my own with my mentor.

Blog 4: Interview Preparation

Content:

1. I plan on interviewing between Jesse and Heather. Jesse because he was actually in a known hip-hop competition and has pretty good experience with it that he can talk about. Heather because she was also in a hip-hop competition, is currently dancing for two crews, and based on the info I gathered, she's easier to talk to.

2. Here is a list of my questions:
-How long have you been doing choreography?
    -Where did you learn choreography?
-Could you please tell me more of your experience when learning it?
-What made you interested in choreography in the first place?
-What other types of hip-hop styles have you mastered?

Additional Questions:
-When creating your choreography, how do you first come up with ideas for it?
-How do you usually impress your audience? Could you give me some examples?
-For you, is it mainly easy or hard to get through how you want your routine to be?
-What's the first thing you should target whenever you start dance choreography?
-How's it like actually performing in a competition/street battles?

Blog 3: Topic Choice and Semester 1 ESLR Goals

1. My topic is Dance Choreography

2. This year, to become more of an:
  •  iPoly Citizen: I plan to interact more and participate in more activities than I usually do throughout the years. I will do as many as I can to experience it. Maybe join a club. It's my last year after all.
  • Effective Learner: I plan to keep myself busy with research with both assignments and things that I've may have missed from previous schools. Just wanna catch up on what I've missed.
  • Effective Communicator: I plan to talk with people more on what's wrong, what can be better, and what I need help with and not be afraid of expressing myself. Throw more ideas to ASB if I do have any.
  • Effective User of Technology: I plan to use appropriate technology for different purposes and try to learn more on using different technology.

Summer Mentorship Component

1. Mentorship Log
2. Chris Freeland
    (626) 939-8430
3. If we advertised our association more, would it get more people to join?
Are there other cities that have their own youth council?
Are there specific requirements to form a city youth council?

Interpretive
4. The most important thing I've gained from this experience is getting the confidence of being active in the community because most of my life, I've been shy when it came to things like voicing out my thoughts and interacting with other people I haven't really known. I knew I wouldn't really have fun if I didn't mingle with the other members so I just broke out of my shell. It also taught me more about being a "team player" and finding other things to do that's beneficial even if you aren't scheduled to do anything. It taught me how ASB works and what happens when EVERYONE does their part.

Applied
5. I've wanted to go out and meet new people who are within my district because I felt like I didn't know anyone, and I was getting bored of staying in the house all day. So, I decided to join a committee. Since I do my part in groups, I figured that this committee might actually work for me. The adviser of the committee mentioned to me that the group appealed to those in ASB and I wasn't in ASB. He mentioned later on that those who are supportive in groups are also good for it. I'm not really a leader but I do have some kept ideas that I can contribute to.

2013 2-Hour Presentation Reflections

1. Here is a list of the senior presentations that I attended:

Domestic Violence- Taryn
Disease Prevention- Jazmin
Singing Professionally- Jamilex
Radio Production- Alfonso
Voice Acting- Deanna
Dance Choreography- Valerie
Solar Cup Competition- Jesse
Theatrical Performance- Danielle
Suicidal Youth- Marissa
Independent Short Films- Yesenia
Wedding Planning- Sydney
Law Enforcement- Jared
Play Therapy- Demerus
Immigration Law- Yareli

2. I'm wondering if we could choose a topic to present that the seniors already presented for next year.

3. For me, the most important part of the senior project is the research itself. Depending on how much you research for that certain topic will determine the grade that you will receive. Not only does it help your grade, but deep research would help you finalize your decisions on whether or not to continue to pursue your topic and get a head start on your career if you do continue on that same path.

4. So far, I have two options to choose from for my topic: psychology and music. The reason why I have psychology as one of my choices is because I've always been fascinated on why people think the way they think and behave. The reason why I have music as the other choice is because, I love music a lot and I think it's easier for me to plan activities with the juniors for next year.
